Jennifer Keyte's Master of Arts in Education transcript (Fall 2014 - Fall 2016)
Below are descriptions of the ten courses I completed as part of my Master of Arts in Education Degree with Michigan State. For any more information on these courses, or my experience with the program, feel free to contact me.
Instructors: Dr. Evelyn Oka and Taylor Hicks-Hoste
This course allowed me to understand the factors that can effect a students' motivation, and gave me access to a number of strategies that I am able to use in classes. By looking at research on learning behaviors and motivational characteristics, I am able to promote students' motivation and promote positive attitude to learning. CEP 802 allowed me to develop a case study of a student, adding more information as my knowledge and understanding grew. Studying behavioral, intrinsic motivation, and cognitive-developmental models of motivation helps me understand how to further support my students within lessons.

Instructors: Dr. Steven Weiland and Aaron Einfeld
Concepts in Educational Enquiry made me consider my beliefs on education, and allowed me to look at different forms of enquiry. I looked at teacher based research, history, psychological theories and ethnographic participant observation. Gaining more of a perspective on the philosophy of education was interesting. Reflecting on my beliefs with regards to educational enquiry was a worthwhile task, encouraging me to be more open minded in my approach. This course also had links with education as we know it today, and gave me a critical eye to further understand teaching and learning in relation to my own experiences.

Instructors: Dr. Carol Sue Englert and Heather Schmitt
There are many different ways in which Special Education programs can be implemented successfully within schools. In particular, I looked into accommodating needs of students in PE and Health, and ways in which the research/reading within this course can be applied when teaching the students from the Special Education class we have at The American School of the Hague, as well as others having LSC support. Planning how to differentiate and include all students has always been important to me, so CEP 840 broadened my knowledge and helped me understand the impact careful planning can have on student success. This course was useful to give me more of a perspective of the American System also, and what can be done to ultimately support students.

Instructor: Dr. Scott Riewald
This sport-based course looked at a number of scientific approaches to coaching. I related the work here to my teaching and did a number of projects where I looked at nutrition, monitoring sporting performance and analyzing movements. I have been able to use aspects of all areas within lessons, especially when differentiating for higher ability students. I feel more confident to discuss some of the aspects of this course on their level. One of the most challenging, yet rewarding tasks in this course was to develop a professional network of Sport Science experts, ranging from orthopedic surgeons to psychologists, journal publishers to strength and conditioning coaches. This was a real challenge but I have an excellent perspective into the way in which Sport Science is regarded in the Netherlands.

Instructors: Colin Gallagher and Spencer Greenhalgh
This course was immediately applicable to me I was able to implement my work into lessons. This course looked at apps, classroom management systems, Minecraft and more, and helped my understand what I can do in order for me to more effectively implement technology to assess student learning. I created Sportfolios for my students, a worthwhile platform for PE students to display their work. I am surprised how much I learned in this course and I am more confident to take risks during lessons using IPads in an attempt to use IT in a more meaningful way. The work done in CEP 813 changed how I plan, implement and modify lesson plans by implementing authentic, meaningful assessment in PE.

Instructors: Carmen Richardson, Jon Good, and Dr. Punya Mishra
During CEP 818, I analyzed the ability to be creative while looking at the qualities or thinking tools that make a genius. I rewrote songs, painted, wrote poems, created abstract art, interviewed creative role models; a vast range of imaginative tasks! Only in the last few weeks did it click for me and I started to understand the true value in the work I had created. My end project involved utilizing these thinking tools to create a block of lessons for the students (Healthy Living in Health class). It gave me a fresh outlook using an alternative approach to bring new life to lessons. Looking back, this was a very useful and insightful course.

Instructor: Andrew Driska
I was able to access two great texts as part of Skill Development in Athletes, that on their own were fascinating reads. The work in this course explored the principles of play and approaches to learning a skill. I also looked at the way planning practice can have a significant effect on how successful learning can take place. I will be able to use many of the strategies in lessons in an attempt to support skill development for beginners and more experienced students. It is almost like this course has given me some new tools to use when I identify a student who is struggling. This is because learning a skill in a “traditional” way is outdated and cannot cater to all students at The American School of the Hague.

Instructor: Dr. Aman Yadav and Dr. Benjamin Gleason
I looked at various ways to implement technology tools as well as the benefits and implications for teaching and learning within this Technology and Leadership course. Taking a critical perspective has allowed me to implement technology to enhance learning during my classes, as well as helping me to model best practice for those in the PE department. Questioning technology with PE, creating professional development opportunities and analyzing what strategies are required for technology integration has helped me develop a vision for the future.

Instructors: Dr. Binbin Zheng and Diana Campbell
The ability to select and implement new technology tools and texts are vital to the success of lessons. The focus must be on the needs of the students and how I can enhance lessons by building on the experience and knowledge I already have. This course has allowed me to experiment with numerous tools and understand the concept of new media within the changing world we live. The hands on, practical manner in which this course was organized has allowed me to experience how media texts and tools can ultimately benefit my teaching and strengthen student learning.

Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler, Aric Gaunt and Spencer Greenhalgh
Developing an online presence as a teacher is important to me as it will allow me to share my experience within my Masters, and share this knowledge with other professionals. Developing this platform, completing various tasks to display my learning and collaborating with other students within the Master of Arts program has allowed me to discuss and reflect on my learning within the course. I believe my portfolio represents me as a teacher and as an individual and has given me an opportunity to consider what is next for me as I finish my Master of Arts.
